I wonder whether our kids will take on photography as an hobby or not. I try to give my boy a break sometimes/quite often and just have fun together with him, but sometimes I just have to be the observer - like what you've been here. It's a lovely shot, Marcin!

Given the digital 'revolution', photos have become more of an integral part of many kids lives, I think. With digicams in evey cell phone, pocket-size digital compacts, etc, a lot more pictures are being made today, than just some years ago - at least that would be my guess from just walking the streets.

That does not mean that they 'take on photography as a hobby'. But at least more people should have the opportunity do do so, as more and more people are exposed to photography as a way of expressing yourself.

Though I have no kids, I still feel the need to be the observer (of our life) a lot of times. Sometimes, as Marcin's shot here, you succeed in creating a photo that transcends the circumstances of it origin. Moments to treasue, for sure.

there already is a tradition of dividing pictures into private (family album) and artistic. of course the pictures from the first group are usually not worthy to call them photography. funny is that plenty of people photographing their nude girlfirends in sophisitcated positions do not really want to agree, that in fact they are also making "family album".
I am in opposition of dividing photography, into any categories. If the picture is able to catch somebody's eye or hearth - it's worth to watch it, and it was definitely worth to make it.

Another funny thing is that time is bringing new fragrance, now pictures from 1930-50s (or older) are all artistic, despite if they were family or not.

Right to point, Marcin: "Another funny thing is that time is bringing new fragrance, now pictures from 1930-50s (or older) are all artistic, despite if they were family or not." To me, and I am just me, that depends on those pictures taking on new light as they are shedding old light. As we forget, their meaning evolves. 'Family' begets 'art' as time goes on. Also, of course, we like to peek back in time, which we can feel that we do when we look at older photographs.

I didn't mean to divide photography. All pictures are good, somehow. It all depends. Writing that bit about the circumstances of their origin was just one attempt to explain why I feel that some are good, while others are not.

Oh - and hello, Marcin! We've never met and I have only just recently began looking at your photos. Nice work, indeed. Great to have become a memmber of something (F) that is so wide, and so good.

Very nice shot at the right moment. It looks like he has been sleeping and just woke up.
