"The dark planet"
I often hear people refer to unsharp, out-of-focused, photos as dreamlike. Personaly my dreams, the very few that I remember, aren't out of focus. They are crystal clear but utterly strange. Helena Blomqvists photos in "the dark planet" are dreamlike to me.
On some occasions, in magazines and exibitions, I have come across the works of Helena Blomqvist. The first time was with the serie "Första kvinnan på månen" (eng. The first woman on the moon) where she had made photos that looked like old black&white prints of typical male situations. At a second glance you realized that the people in the photos where all female, there where female soldiers invading a beach, a female polar expedition and so on.
There was something about those photos that really stuck to my brain. Her work has always made a great impression on me and this time, with "the dark planet" on the F Blog, is no exception.

The coming Saturday, the 2nd of December, there will be a release of "the dark planet" catalog on the gallery Knäppper+Baumgarten on Tegnergatan 4 in Stockholm. It's open between 13-16.

larger than life moments in photographs that takes you to an alternative world. The themes are dreams, yearning, vulnerability, loneliness, death, the supernatural, and the threatening darkness of the night.'"

Resilience
Christofer, I agree with what your saying, Fort Europe having a decreasing population with a couple of hundred million people deficit in ten-fifteen years time. But I count on the resilience of mankind somehow, these huge structures don't break down very often - as long as we keep the peace. :)

It quite often strikes me that there is a culture in this land that is replaced right here, right now. Someday we will just be left with a damn lot of middle aged people with golf bags running around with their knickers searching their balls.
And we...who inherited this, who borrow this from our coming generations.
We will be looking for our balls too...

The man from Szeged
Many things in the history of photography seem to lead back to the 291 gallery
in New York. I was planning to write something about Edward Steichen who
was Alfred Stieglitz associate and designer of the covers of the legendary
journal "Camera Work".
Then I stumbled upon this man born in Szeged, Hungary.

His name was Nickolas Muray and for those of you who are not familiar with
him I´d like to share my findings. As you probably already have figured out,
I have not graduated from any academy of fine arts or something like that.
I am just a curious private investigator. Anyway Nickolas was a very handsome
man, but also a skilled photographer. Below is a picture of his studio in
New York where he settled down in 1913.

Muray became one of the most sought after portrait photographers and made
over 10 000 portraits, many of them were of celebrities. He worked for
magazines like Vanity Fair and Harper´s Bazaar.
I was delighted to find his color prints. The one with the shoes below is
breathtaking. I really love it.

Nickolas had a love affair with Frida Kahlo for many years. In the last
picture you will find him in Frida´s and Diego Riveras home in Mexico.

Right to left: Frida Kahlo, the Mexican painter and caricaturist Miguel Covarrubias (1904-1957), Diego Rivera, the Hungarian-born photographer Nickolas Muray (1892-1965), Rosa Covarrubias (former American dancer Rosa Rolando), and two Tehuanas who served Rivera as models.
It seems I have ended up in Mexico once more.
