my meetings with Ryszard Kapuściński…Sweden

The camera is an instrument that teaches people how to see without a camera / Dorothea Lange

Anneli Lundberg sent me some excellent pictures that I am happy
to share with you. She was our invited guest 3 October 2006.
It´s good to see you again at the F blog Anneli! -urbano
"These pictures were published in a book printed in 2006, celebrating
the 75th anniversary of a branch (Gruvön) of the Swedish Paper
Workers Union. I was asked to contribute with ten pages of photos
presenting my view of Gruvön. It turned out that I was finally asked
to illustrate the entire book. It was a very stimulating project since I
was free to chose my way of creating the pictures. I was glad that
I didn´t have to do a documentary because it´s not quite my way
of photographing"

Anchored by the slim trunk, sandwiched between the spaces...there is
a tentative intimacy to this image, for me. A feeling not so different
from coming across a fawn in the forest. Almost a chance encounter.
A sudden movement and he scampers into the brush.
I love this photo for the silent communion between photographer and
small creature. The blanket of ground cover...the depth of the woods
...a still silence in the Fleeting Moment...the Right Moment to depress
a shutter.
I feel the urge to brush aside the blurred leaves of the foreground.
Close enough to touch...just extend the arm and shove to the right
...step forward with the left foot...and the image vanishes...nothing
but a handful of leaves and the illusion of having shared something
a moment ago.
The Fleeting Moment.

I proudly introduce to you - Gabor Pal - "the master of digital remastering". Gabor aka "Radikalis Vertikalis is a young hungarian student who creates his photographic artworks in a surrealistic tradition using only digital technique. I came across his portfolio some time ago and was quite taken with the mix of vivid images I found.
"As for me photography and manipulation are going together. Digital technique is a great way to reanimate spirit and to move it into a higher level of conciousness."

This picture - called "Solo" - just recently was awarded "best picture"
by YFO It was shot outside the museum of modern art in Barcelona in
February 2006 with a slow, old Canon PowerShot Pro 1. The picture is not
staged. I was lucky to see this guy passing by with the umbrella.
Apparently you need luck to be succesful...

Well,
I just must tell you all, mom has succeeded from Flen. They are actually breeding mushrooms in the suburbs of Nairobi, instructed remotely through email from mom (and Berra of course).

I still remember seeing your first picture Matt...and I have been looking
for it! Where is it? Anyway, finally you are here on The F Blog. I am
very pleased to be able to show our readers "Calle Diez" a celebration
of grain, movement and fiesta!
I love people with a character and you´ve got loads of it Matty boy.
You are most welcome here to the "no rules society" and I am looking
forward to your first guest postings. Matt will appear under a label
called: Beneath the Hard Wiring: Subterranean Thoughts.
