A Beetle's Funeral

tribute to Chopin

2010 is a year of Fryderyk Chopin. it's 200 anniversary of his birth. in Poland people got mad about it. you can find Chopin on every corner - in magazine, on poster, in his name are held concerts (of course) and contest of drawing for kids. our newborn son, Tadeusz got a gift from the Warsaw's president: body with Chopin!

so stay tuned to see Tadeusz in it! :)

We love photo books and one day we found a mail from Sophie in our inbox presenting her beautiful book Élise. Enjoy!

Sophie writes:
I am an artist based in Manchester England, currently completing a BA in photography at Manchester School of Art.

Through photography, artist books and creative writing I work with the construction of narratives and lives. Often born from personal experience, this is a way for me to document the changes within my own life, playing with the realms of reality and un-reality.

Within Élise I paint a fragile portrait of a female character through photography and text. Opening the door to private fragments of a life that does not really exist. Text and image come together, when a fractured narrative takes the form of a screen play within the book piece which accompanies the images.

Élise grapples with the expectation of disappointment in a world where she exists, apparently, only for herself.

Isle of Skye at Fotokompaniet in Gothenburg

Today I'm heading to Fotokompaniet to see Joakim Ahnfelts exhibition Isle of Skye. If you're in Gothenburg someday between today and the 4th of march I suggest you go and have a look. Judging by the photos Joakim sent us it'll be great!

Kerstin Kuntze

"Face it"

The face is a mirror of emotion - desire - hope - dream - desaster - future - past - ...
Kerstin want to show the face behind the face - the unspoken - the unseen - the secret ...
Maybe you see parts of the picture as a mirror - and maby it touched you a bit, she says.

Kerstin Kuntze was born 1965 in Cologne, Germany. After studying graphic-design at the the universtity of essen (Folkwangschule), she worked in mayor advertising agencies as an art-director. Picturemaking was always an inward urge. Starting at an early age with drawings, always showing something "human".
She´s now (since 5 years) using photography as a basis to show her view of the world.

Along the Yangtze River with Nadav Kander

If you haven't visited Nadav Kaders website yet I strongly recommend it. He has several wonderful projecs, both comercial and personal. One of them is his journey along the Yangtze River of which he speaks in this video. Make yourself a cup of coffee and lean back for 10 minutes and 10 seconds. You'll be blown away.

It's always a pleasure to check the inbox. Especially when we get mail from such wonderful photographers as Freya Najade.

1. DENNIS IN HIS ROOM
I have my own house, where I live half of the year. Sometimes I don’t talk for a week to anybody there. In the summer I rent a room in a gay retirement home. I enjoy meeting people of my kind.

"In the project If you are lucky, you get old I capture encounters with the elderly passing by and I tell stories of those I spent time with. To my surprise, the old people I met were not just proud of their age and the fact that they made it that far in life, they were also still falling in love and breaking up. They were overcoming their lifetime partner’s death, living out their erotic fantasies or dealing with the loss of their sexual desire. Talking to them showed that inner growth is ever lasting and that humans above the age of seventy continue to love, suffer, long, dream and have sexual feelings."

2. FIR TREE
I was married for thirty years. I loved my wife very much. If she hadn’t died, we would be still together. After her death I was devastated.


3. DENNIS WITH HIS FLIGHT COSTUME

The thing I regret most is that I didn’t become an astronaut and never went into space.


4. DENNIS IN STOCKINGS
The first time I dressed as a girl, I was eight years old.

I don’t want to be a woman. I am happy the way I am. I just enjoy the kick.

6. DENNIS DRESSED UP

I feel that I am transforming from a caterpillar into a butterfly. Sometimes I go out like this. If people don’t like it, it is their problem.

FREYA NAJADE was born in Germany in 1977. After studying in Bremen and San Francisco, she moved to London, where she currently lives and works. In December 2009 she graduated with Distinction from the University of the Arts London (London College of Communication) after completing a Masters in Documentary Photography. Her work was selected for the 2009 AOP Student Awards and she has had honourable mention in the IPA Awards.
